Role Profile: Insolvency & Debt Recovery Lawyer
(Solicitor or CILEX) – 3 Years+ PQE
We are seeking a qualified lawyer to provide expert legal advice, case management, and representation in all matters relating to debt recovery and pre-insolvency actions. The role is responsible for progressing a varied caseload involving statutory demands, pre-petition investigations and contentious insolvency proceedings. The lawyer will ensure high-quality client service, risk-aware decision making, and commercially focused outcomes
Key Responsibilities:
Case Management
• Manage a full caseload of insolvency matters from instruction to resolution or final order.
• Draft and review statutory demands, bankruptcy and winding up petitions, associated applications, settlement agreements, and other related documentation and correspondence.
• Conduct financial and legal investigations into the debtor’s position, including asset traces reviewing accounting information and other insolvency indicators.
• Prepare concise and commercially focused advice notes and reports for clients.
Client Relationship Management:
• Act as a primary point of contact for clients, commercial entities, and internal stakeholders.
• Provide timely updates and clear communication on case progress, risks, and strategic options.
• Build long-term client relationships through consistent delivery of high-quality service.
Litigation Support & Advocacy:
• Prepare court documents and bundles for insolvency-related hearings and applications.
• Liaise and brief Counsel where appropriate and attend hearings when required.
• Support the transition of matters into formal insolvency proceedings when escalation is necessary.
•Negotiate settlements and prepare formal settlement documents where appropriate.
Business Development & Team Contribution:
• Contribute to the growth of the insolvency team through thought leadership, client training sessions, and participation in BD initiatives.
• Support junior team members through mentoring and providing technical guidance.
• Assist with internal projects, precedents, workflows, and process improvements.
Key Skills & Attributes
Essential
• Qualified Solicitor or CILEX Lawyer with at least 3 years’ debt recovery and pre-insolvency experience.
• Strong drafting and analytical skills.
• Ability to manage a high-volume caseload with competing deadlines.
• Sound commercial judgment.
• Strong communication skills.
Desirable
• Experience working with corporate creditor clients and insolvency practitioners.
• Exposure to contentious insolvency/debt related matters and court applications.
