Purpose Of The Role: The Junior Paralegal role is designed as a phased development position, providing a clear pathway from legal administration into paralegal responsibilities. The role starts with essential case management and team support, gradually progressing to handling routine court matters under supervision, client liaison, and supporting the wider Debt Recovery Unit (DRU).
Key Responsibilities:
Phase 1: Legal Administration & Case Support
Case Management
– Accurately open and set up new matters on the case management system.
– Organise and maintain client files, ensuring compliance with due diligence requirements and legal regulations.
– Apply daily debtor payments to the appropriate files.
Client Communication
– Prepare and issue Letters Before Action, ensuring accuracy and adherence to service level agreements.
– Provide prompt case progress updates to clients.
Team Support
– Deliver reliable administrative support to the Debt Recovery Team.
– Undertake ad-hoc tasks as required, maintaining flexibility to meet team priorities
Phase 2: Junior Paralegal Duties
Caseload Management Support
– Assist in preparing matters for routine court actions, including issuing claims, judgments, and straightforward enforcement
– Maintain accurate case data in the case management system, ensuring compliance with internal processes.
Client Interaction
– Respond to straightforward client enquiries via phone and email.
– Liaise directly with clients to provide updates, gather additional information, and handle procedural queries with minimal supervision.
Collaboration
– Work closely with the Debt Recovery Unit to assess next steps, escalate complex matters, and ensure coordinated strategies for recovery.
Training & Development
– Attend scheduled training sessions, take detailed notes, and apply new learning to casework and client interactions.
Key Skills & Attributes
• Previous experience in a secretarial, administrative, or entry-level legal role desirable.
• Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in case management systems and general office software.
• Proactive, adaptable, and eager to learn new skills.
